Investigations and controversies should not obscure certain realities ... recent records are hardly flattering!
18/19 April 2008: Galerius the Eurostar : 10 H delay was a computer glitch .... "Still, the Eurostar trains aging need a good facelift Technological
Eurostar, the longest journey nearly 12 H: bad luck and the mess ! "A new record, the SNCF could have done" Mireille Faugere, (former) Director of France-Europe travel to the station, called the situation "unacceptable" on Saturday morning at a press conference station North. Recognizing that passengers have experienced a "harrowing journey"
* Survey and 2008 promises : conclusions the investigation has been able to consult Bussereau put greater emphasis on a series of internal problems at the station: To avoid the risks of "foul-ups " causing the problem, Guillaume Pepy has also announced measures: while rescue gear sorely lacked in that famous night of Friday to Saturday, he also promised to ensure they are available now "100%" and greater investment in equipment . He also promised a "training effort " Eurostar agents to detect failures or for coupling the trains.
- April 7, 2008: Eurostar traffic is seriously disrupted and the Paris-London 7:13 takes nine hours to bring the two capitals. At the root of these incidents, a breakdown of overhead in the Channel Tunnel and a suspicious package alert in the station at London St Pancras.Entre October and November 2006, a series of incidents have marred TGV traffic in northern France: - Oct. 27: 900 passengers on TGV Perpignan-Brussels remain stranded for nearly six hours in the Yonne because of a failure.
- October 31: Nearly 500 people are stranded for two and a half hours a TGV from Paris to Nice, stopped in the middle lane in the Yonne, due to a decrease in voltage-November 9: Traffic TGV in northern France was interrupted for half past two, the time of transfer to another train of the 83 passengers of a Bordeaux-Lille TGV broke down in late morning near Roye (Somme).
- November 10: the 365 passengers on a TGV between Paris and Lille are delayed an hour and a half following a "hardware failure" requiring transhipment.
- November 15: Due triggering a fire alarm and a smoke in the motor, 300 passengers on a TGV Paris-Lille suffer a delay of two hours. (Source AFP)

June 6, 2008: 7 Hours for a Paris / London : this time it is a battery failure !
February 3, 2009: Late 5 H 30-7 H : snow in Great Britain and Northern France
18/19 December 2009: All records are broken and outrage was at its height! : snow in France ... .. "The snow fence (1) did not go as smoothly as planned" explanations first before denouncing ... a structural defect of the tunnel ventilation ! Two words

(1) sheeting installed 7 years to protect engines (despite some inaccuracies, a number of elements. ... Interesting)
But Eurostar loses credibility multiply the excuses and evasions, while requiring others a restraint.
When the "exceptional" becomes habitual action is necessary : a rail expert quoted by the British daily The Times, already dismantled last winter theses Eurostar, holding that "These circumstances are not unique" and that "the engineers would have anticipated these problems. (...) It is quite possible to equip trains with specific systems that would have protected the snow."
* 2009 Proposals and promises: "we must increase the number of trains and locomotives emergency relief so that when there is a problem, the passengers are released faster from tunnel, "Guillaume Pepy has suggested Monday on TF1. A closer
2008 commitments, although this year there was neither material resources nor human resources for hauling trains stuck in a timely manner!
January 2, 2010: New problem for Eurostar : return of the snow announced ... concerns ... but no: 2 H delay, technical failure : this time it is brakes who are involved!
January 6, 2010 : Eurostar trains canceled because of weather : according to the spokesman for Eurostar, additional precautions were taken in anticipation of weather this week. "It was snow special the last time. The drive was protected this time, "she said, adding that the independent investigation was not yet complete. This should happen by early February.
01/07/2010 : And Re-Belote! ... still stuck in the Eurostar Channel Tunnel : all traffic is stopped - new Problem traction ! ... in fact it s 'act a system failure signaling board although ... Eurostar Fréthun turns back to the Gare du Nord , episode recounts with humor a London correspondent for the World *
* This article has been a rectification of the newspaper: "Contrary to what we have written the article with the headline" On board a Eurostar down in the open English countryside (the world of 9 January), Eurostar was not "broken" but just stopped. "
All these incidents often described as "extremely rare, exceptional "real link failures within the company, a lack of material and information to properly manage crisis situations, recurring technical deficiencies. Justifications and explanations Eurostar are sometimes a little fuzzy, unconvincing ... ... .. The various surveys submitted to the appropriate Minister does not seem to lead to tangible improvements in information and repatriation of passengers.
The word "galley" is used too often these days! Station to the risk that the number of "clients only desperate" grow!
As of 2010, management had to be revamped Eurostar: the current CEO, Richard Brown , to serve as non-executive chairman in place of G. Pepy, and Nicolas Petrovic , the current DGA, the position of CEO.
However, the management of this crisis, 2009, cast a chill on the appointments .... The strategy of saying "it's them not us" and then "it's not just our trains that have experienced failures" goes wrong and is unworthy of the people likely to occupy such positions.
WHAT SOLUTIONS?
1) - One of them does it not in this small sentence? Eurostar plans to renew its fleet ... equipped, hopefully, the system tropicalization !
This should reduce advantageously:
- the number of investigations and "never again";
- setbacks for clients, including Eurotunnel who suffer the inconvenience of a lock link Channel ... ...
- and of course fruitless polemics! : Note that on "differences on liability outages Eurostar falsely raised by some journalists, has no place: the failures are simply because of Eurostar in charge of selecting and maintenance of his equipment!
- repeated apologies that customers will be less satisfied when their choices will be offered with the opening of trade to competition.

As for battery issues, information technology, brakes, aging equipment, maintenance? These blackouts still raise some questions!
2) Information, Organization and delivery times are, of course, be subject to all the efforts:
The hazard is inherent in any activity they are also not As the incidents themselves have angered passengers, but rather how they are paid:
- The lack of information
- printing mess
- The endless waiting without a minimum of comfort and attention
- Lack of emergency equipment readily available
are the critics who keep coming back and constitute unacceptable for passengers regardless of where they occur ... Although this year, the same causes have produced effects worse given the number of simultaneous failures and location : the Channel Tunnel!

Some solutions already proposed are interesting, it is also necessary not to remain at the stage of promises.
Should he get there? The financial burden of delays, cancellations and compensations, the disastrous consequences for the image of the Eurostar, they do not justify the investment needed to effectively address these drawbacks of thermal shock - fragile yet clearly identified?
By 2013 and the expected renewal of part of the fleet: the real evils good remedies! because the image of the "star" began to be seriously dented! Too bad ! And this is not the posturing that can present the regild!
EUROSTAR must overcome the faster this goes wrong again and offer its customers the service that has made it successful.
