Sunday morning, 11 am, I have arrived in Harlem, with Margot. We go to church.
If there's one thing to see in the U.S., it is a Mass in a church where the population is im-friquaine. It reveals among other choirs gospel. And the least we can say is that it's quite impressive.
Thanks to Sabah and contact Margot to the right place. It was the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ. Here is information for those interested:
This church is accustomed to receive tourists during the services. It is forbidden to take pictures, use the phone, and bring bottled water. And the tourists are taken for the biggest party on the first floor, so as not to disturb the course of service with came round.
Here is who stayed:
- The Mass lasted 2h.
- a Reverend super dynamic. The speech is delivered by singing most of the time. Her voice is super strong. Always smile when he speaks.
- The choir was composed only of men, not all young people often. They were all in black suit and blue tie. Some of them made-d'entre solos: their voice is superb, they gave me chills. Another choir, certainly mixed in costume (dress church) was just opposite the male choir but could not not see them because they were in the DRC.
- An interpreter for the deaf was present next to the choir, to translate the words of the speakers and songs. Two people took turns, fortunately.
- were not allowed to "Oh Happy Day" but the songs in the first part of the Mass were very catchy. They must often follow the rhythm, clapping hands.
- Two quests take place in the ranks. They are picked up by a kind security guard, wearing white gloves Noiret.
was really a beautiful moment. I really recommend to people there, or will visit NYC, make a detour to a church. It's amazing and moving!
